If it all gets too stressful – take a virtual holiday
FACT: The nervous system does not differentiate between a real and a vividly imagined event
ACTION:When the holiday season gets too stressful, choose one of the following:
- Imagine sunbathing on an exotic beach, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, feeling the sand beneath your body and hearing the waves lapping on the shore.
- Imagine sitting on top of a hill on a warm summer’s day with a cool breeze blowing through your hair, just gazing out at the miles of countryside around you, listening to the quiet.
- Imagine sitting in a beautifully tranquil garden, surrounded by exquisite plants and fragrant flowers, watching the sun dancing on the water of your private pool.
- Or choose your own favourite place
Carry out this exercise for 5 minutes whenever you feel the need and when you return you can feel as though you have just been on holiday, and as far as your nervous system is concerned, you have.
