Here’s a quick relaxation that you can do when you feel the worry coming on...
Sit quietly and focus on your breathing.
Breathing in for the count of 4 and out for the count of 6 and as you are focusing on your breathing for a few moments, just start to let go and clear your mind.
You know that a lot of what you worry about happening in the future may not actually happen.
You can remember times in the past when things have turned out a lot better than you thought they would and you used up a lot of emotional energy worrying for nothing.
Now, as you carry on breathing slowly and calmly…… see yourself in the future coping with a future event….. coping well and coming out the other side. See yourself dealing confidently with difficult situations……. Tell yourself that even though there are challenges in your future….. you will face them, work through them and do the best you can….. and that worrying about them isn’t going to do any good…………. That you are ready to let go of that worry…..
Feel the worry leaving you as you carry on focusing on your breathing….. slowly and calmly.
